Konami shuts down P.T. PC remake and offers creator an internship
The P.T. remake on PC has been shuttered by Konami. But there’s a silver lining, according to its creator.
Konami has offered an internship to the P.T. remake creator after asking him to pull the game offline.
That’s a helluvalot nicer than slapping him with a cease and desist.
According to 17 year-old Qimsar, Konami contacted him by telephone to personally ask him to pull the P.T. PC remake offline.
The Konami representative told Qimsar the company “really liked” the remake, but due to legal issues, the project had to be taken offline.
It was then the company offered him an internship along with some Konami games and swag (thanks, Games Radar).
“I got a phone call that I was expecting at about 5 am from someone who worked at Konami,” said Qimsar. “He essentially told me that he was very sorry for being the bearer of bad news, but I would have to take down my remake.
“I was told that he and many other people at Konami saw and really liked my remake, but legit due to legal issues that were out of his or anybody else’s control really, he had to ask me to take down my remake project. I said I would be willing to do so.
“From there, the conversation went from really bad for me to really really good… a freakin’ internship for me with Konami.”
Qimsar said he had spent around 180 hours developing the remake. The video above shows how it looked just last week.
A demo for Hideo Kojima’s cancelled Silent Hills game was released on the PSN Store, where it was downloaded over 1 million times. The demo was up on the store for a few months before the cancellation, and then given the “scorched earth” treatment.
Other P.T. experiences have been created by fans, but most have yet to be finished.
There’s also the P.T.-inspired indie horror Allison Road, which was cancelled and brought back to life a few months later. A release date hasn’t been announced.
