Sega will "aggressively" focus on PC ports after Steam strength during lockdown

  • 199

Digital PC games sales rocketed during the Covid19-lockdown. Sega noticed that Persona 4: Golden was very popular on Steam during the sales. Especially in March and April 2020, and even though the sales slowed during June and July, Sega's catalogue's popularity was still higher than in 2019. Especially on Steam.

The company is pleased with the warm welcome of PC ports and is now set on porting more. While some lockdowns are still going on, where others are over forever and some lockdowns are being reissued for a second time, this is the perfect time for Sega to make it happen.

As someone who recently fell in love with the Yakuza series, of which 3 of the games are already on Steam, alongside a new one that's coming soon, (edit: thought this was a sidestory as I haven't finished Kiryu's story yet) I really hope I'll see the rest of the games on the platform. Which game would you like to see ported? Let me know in the comments!

Great! I'm waiting for Yakuza 3-6 and spin-offs now!

Glad to hear there are more fans, as the series is more popular in Japan.

Sidenote\correction: actually Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a main entry + reboot and not a sidestory. It's called Yakuza 7 in Japan, but because Kiryu's story is done and there's a new protagonist, as well as a new turn-based combat that differs from the traditional gameplay, it also serves as a starting point for the franchise to newcomers, which is why sega for marketing reasons, dropped the number from the title from the western release, announced next-gen ports to the game as launch titles and added English dub to the game, for the first time since the original Yakuza 2 on the PS2 (although the great reception for Judgement's English dub probably contributed to it too).

Anyway, I'm happy Sega\Atlus finally noticed the PC market, and I hope other Japanese publishers wil follow suit too.

Oh, I didn't know that! I actually just started with Kiwami after completing Yakuza 0, so I'm still busy with Kiryu's story. I'm gonna edit my article, thanks for the imput.

The gameplay you're describing seems like interesting twist, but I can't really imagine turn-based combat in a Yakuza game. Maybe I'll enjoy it once I'm there?

You're Welcome :)

From what I've seen the gameplay retains the wacky\over-the-top feel of the franchise, while letting you control your whole party in combat as well, which is exciting in my opinion. The game is already came out in Japan months ago, and from what I understand it was generally received well, but I haven't followed the reception there closely enough so don't take my word for it. I predict people will be split about it here, we'll have to see.

Funny thing is, the combat was first revealed as a concept on April's fools day, but it turned that they managed to fool everyone by not really fooling them afterall LOL.

Interstellar

I hope they dont go crazy with the pricing, just like Capcom did with Resident Evil 3 Remake. The game sold really poorly plus it has some horrible regional pricing.

They probably got too excited by how well Resident Evil 2 Remake sold.

Also... Persona 5 on Steam, please?

I really want some old school re-makes. I know that most of them are terrible. But the nostaglia! THE NOSTAGLIA!!

(What old School Sega game do you want Sega to make a remake of?)

Shining Force (1 not 2)

Phantasy Star (1-4, nothing after, lol)

And of course Classic Might & Magic!
