Do you have to launch the game from the Alienware Arena website? I find if I launch it direct through steam it doesn't track. Is that a me issue or a common issue?

not in my experience no, it just takes time to sync the play time

no alienware legit just checks the amount of hours you have on your steam profile. If you have more than an hour of playtime since starting the event on your public steam profile, it will count.

Due to recent Alienware Steam Events bugging it may have changed, in the past, if I launch the game through Alienware, I can close the game & re-open through Steam & it would still track the time over time so it just checks every now & then

The button does nothing. It's just a link that tells your browser to open Steam and launch the game. Launching directly from Steam, a shortcut, whatever is all equivalent.

jk has best answer, but I'll add that the link helps you identify the correct version of the game. Some games have a remaster and/or remake.
