Looking Ahead: 5 Bangers in 2025!

Happy New Year my fellow Aliens! I figured that since I did a favorites list of 2024, it’s only right that I do another list, but this time, we’re looking ahead in 2025! There are so many games coming out this next year that I can’t even believe it! From AAA bangers to smaller indie titles which we know I love, we can well rested to know that 2025 is looking like a fantastic year of gaming. As we know release dates can be changed and pushed out, and I will always be on the side of ‘give games more time to cook’ so we can have a polished gaming experience! For now, at least as of writing this, we do have 2025 release dates for these following titles!

So, without further ado! Let’s jump into my most anticipated list of 2025! In no particular order again (it’s less stressful this way), these titles range from AAA bangers, unnecessary Sony exclusives, and some more incredible looking multiplayer titles that I am for sure jumping into! It was hard to widdle this list down to just 5 games but here we go:

Ghost of Yotei

First up, let’s get the Sony exclusive out of the way. Know that I don’t actually own a PlayStation and I did wait for the PC port of Ghost of Tsushima which took literally three and a half years to come out from the release of the game on Playstation. But were those three and a half years' worth it? You bet they were. Ghost of Tsushima is a masterpiece of the craft and if you haven’t played the game you absolutely need to.

Ghost of Yōtei is the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima and if it’s anything like the first, this game is going to be yet another masterpiece waiting to shake the gaming world up! Ghost of Yōtei is set in the late 16th Century and follows a new protagonist other than our beloved Jin Sakai. This time we will be playing as Atsu, a skilled warrior navigating the landscape of a new area to players as well – Mount Yōtei. While technically far from the lands of Tsushima in the first game, Yotei still will feel familiar to players with the expected fluid combat, open-world exploration, and a wonderfully rich narrative drenched in Japanese history. Unless someone sends me a Playstation, I cannot wait to get my hands on this one 3 and a half years after release so I will be writing about this again in 2028!

Dune Awakening

MUAD’DIB!

Honestly, I’m a big fan of the books, I'm a big fan of the movies, and I imagine I am going to be a big fan of this open-world survival MMO sandbox of sand where I can live out my Dune fantasy as a champion of House Atreides.

From the creators of Conan Exiles, Funcom is bringing us another exciting take on this crafting genre toting the immense narrative depth of world of Frank Herbert’s Dune. This is another ambitious survival game where players will do what us survival fans do: gather resources, craft equipment, build massive elaborate bases – all while contending with environmental hazards like deadly sandstorms and the ever-present threat of the big ol’ shai-hulud! We’re going to have factions which means faction wars for resources of the barren planet. We’re going to have intricate base-building mechanics where you can copy-pasta a base blueprint that you make. We’re going to make alliances; we’re going to break friendships – we're going to have a wild ride with this one.

If you’re interested in the Dune world at all, you’re going to want to check this one out.

Jump Ship

I saw the announcement trailer for this game, and I immediately fell in love. The gem we have here is known as Jump Ship which is a first-person co-op shooter where you and three friends take on the roles of a spaceship crew. Working together between ship management, spacewalks, on-foot exploration of various planets in the galaxy, and combat scenarios that both in space and on planets! I am imagining some Han Solo Chewbacca-esque type moments here in space and some looter-shooter style on-ground waves of enemies like Destiny FPS style.

There seems like there’s going to be a lot to do with some grace of replayability! Keepsake Games sports that no-two run’s will be exactly the same, which for a gamer like myself, is interesting enough to give a +1. Alongside other mechanics of upgrading your ship and weapons for certain missions, working towards static progression goals, I have to say that Jump Ship looks like a time-sink that I am willing to be a part of!

33 Immortals

Enter 33 Immortals – I read that this one is a 33-player co-op game. Huh?! Then you read further and see that the game is a large-scale raid boss style combat/gameplay that is inspired by MMOs?! I love raiding in World of Warcraft so immediately sign me up here – this one looks fantastic.

With a fantastic art-style that reminds me of Hades, players take on the role of a damned-soul fighting for their eternal lives! In a way it seems like a co-op Hades, which I am absolutely here for. The top-down combat style, I can already tell I am going to using my controller for this one. More than anything else though, is the sheer fact that you are jamming with 32 other people in this one. Large-scale combat video games take my heart, and you will definitely find me here in 2025.

Subnautica 2

It is almost here! And I am not even talking about Subnautica 2 – I am talking about Subnautica multipalyer! Finally! Uknown Worlds have filled the void in my heart that was not being able to explore the depths of abyss with my buddies. Survival games should always have co-op in my opinion and I am now whole with Subnautica 2, thank you Unknown Worlds.

We all know Subnautica by now, and if you don’t definitely go check it out. Definitely up there in the survival-crafting category with incredible graphics, incredible biomes/life, crafting submarines and different gadgets, it’s great! And now Subnautica 2 is bringing that back with refined survival mechanics, more diverse biomes, and enhanced environmental storytelling. It’s said that the underwater world will feel more dynamic, with improved AI behavior for both hostile and passive creatures, and a greater emphasis on resource management and base-building collaboration. And, of course, multiplayer! Outside of the other titles on this list, you will definitely find me exploring some more abyssal creatures and crafting subs with a buddy in this one!

What a list! While I wish that I could add every game on here that is coming out in 2025 because why not just play them all!? I had to dwindle it down and pick some juicers that I think might not be on everyone’s watch list. There were a few that I took off because they are reportedly releasing in 2026 – shoutout Phantom Blade Zero – and some others that I felt were too large and mainstream like GTA 6 and Elden Ring: Nightreign – yes, I am PUMPED for GTA 6 and Nightreign! Thus, this list is born, and I am stoked for each one of these games gaming adventures! I think it’s safe to say we are going to have a fantastic time in 2025 for gaming.

I would love to hear from you! What games are you looking forward to this year? Are you excited for any games on this list? Any that weren’t on my list? Let’s chat about it in the comments!

Interstellar

Thanks for the info.  They all look interesting.

I'm very excited for Subnautica 2.

Jump Ship 2 looks okay. I'm worried the gameplay will be more shallow than I'm expecting, particularly the ship part.
