Sonic The Hedgehog Director Promises Sonic Redesign

  • 73

After the release of the Sonic the Hedgehog trailer, fans all around expressed their hatred of the characters design. Many saw the design as trying to make Sonic appear too human, which in turn resulted in a very creepy appearance that was unsettling to fans. Gamers however are a very vocal community, and it wasn't long before they took to social media to express their disgust, and in some cases even redesign the character themselves.

Now fans can hopefully rejoice, as Director Jeff Fowler took to Twitter to promise fans that change is coming. Such actions are indeed a rare occurrence, especially after promotional trailers have been paid for and released.

Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear... you aren't happy with the design & you want changes. It's going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be...

-Jeff Fowler

At this point in time though, we have no idea what the change will look like. Hopefully they'll take the designs fans put forward into account, and make Sonic look more in line with what we all know and love.

Share your thoughts! Were you unhappy with the initial design? Are you happy to hear change is coming? And do you think they'll get it right? Or just make more of a mess?

I just read this article and I truly think that they should change it because the sonic looked creepy. It might worked for Detective Pikachu but it should be different with Sonic because it's also one of the legendary character... well :D

It was a very pleasant surprise to see that a Sonic movie is coming very soon but i have to say that i also did not like the design of Sonic in the trailer. I don't see the reason to make Sonic look more "human", it makes no sense. But to see a responce like this from the director is a rare thing and very positive, maybe it's not too late to make up and correct things.

Yah, I definitely didn't expect they'd respond positively, let alone change his appearance. It's likely going to cost them a lot of money to redo it all, so I'll give them credit for listening to the public. Just hoping they don't screw up their second chance.
