Andrew Hulshult confirmed to be new Doom Eternal DLC's composer

“You can’t rush art” – Mick Gordon has left the chat, and another metal god has taken his place.

It’s been a while since Doom Eternal producer Marty Stratton posted an open letter on Reddit stating that composer Mick Gordon won’t be asked to return to the franchise. Controversy arose during the game’s first weeks when the official soundtrack release for Doom Eternal contained a number of poorly-mixed tunes. When asked about the matter, Gordon confirmed that he didn't mix the entire record, which suffered from a total lack of dynamics in all the tracks that weren't personally assembled by Gordon himself. Basically, the music in the soundtrack was of significantly lower quality than the music in 2016’s Doom. Of course, Mick is still one of the greatest game composers ever – it’s just a time thing I guess. Even Marty Stratton said so in his open letter. Thanks for the badass tracks Mick, we still love you.

Now, for the upcoming DLC The Ancient Gods: Part One, Andrew Hulshult will take care for the score. Hulshult is a huge Doom fan too, and has lots of experience when it comes to metal music and games. If you’re curious about some of his music, take a look at his video “IDKFA: Full Doom remake album” where he remade all of Doom 1993’s tracks.

What do you think about this choice? Good, or will you miss Gordon? Let me know in the comments!
