Friendslop vs. Friendlike - 5 Fun Multiplayer Indies!

GREETINGS GAMERS!!

I have been saying it for a while now, but I'll say it again: We are living in the age of indies! Indies games are pumping out left and right, some of them go under the radar, and some of them hit the big Steam frontpage with 1 million copies sold in a week! It's incredible! Though, if we zoom in a bit, I am noticing a trend of multiplayer indie games that have been either getting deemed “Friendslop” or “Friendlike”. In my humble gamer opinion, these are really the same thing, with one holding an obvious negative connotation over the other, so let’s just be nice and have fun gaming together!

Nevertheless, these games have been popping off, and I wanted to share some of the ones from my library! So, without further ado, check these games out!

RV There Yet?

RV There Yet? is a physics-driven cooperative adventure that turns a simple road trip into an unpredictable survival challenge! You and your friends take control of a single, aging, basically broken, recreational vehicle and attempt to drive it home after being forced onto a treacherous detour through the wilderness of Mabutts Valley. The goal is straightforward: reach the exit while keeping the RV intact and your crew alive. If you haven’t already, definitely go check this one out!

YAPYAP

YAPYAP is a chaotic co-op stealth-ish vandalism simulator disguised as a magical horror game. You and up to five friends play as tiny, underqualified minions sent by your wizard boss to break into a rival archmage’s tower and cause as much destruction as possible before getting caught. The hook is voice-activated spellcasting, meaning you literally shout spell names into your mic to trigger abilities that shove enemies, launch objects, transform props, or generally make the situation worse in the funniest way possible. Each run revolves around hitting a destruction quota by smashing valuables, sabotaging magical devices, and navigating environmental puzzles, all while dodging roaming monsters and reactive defenses. If you’re remotely a fan of games like Content Warning, this is one is right up your alley!

Roadside Research

Roadside Research is a co-op simulation game where the premise is simple: run a roadside gas station. The twist is that you and up to three friends are actually undercover aliens pretending to be human while quietly studying humanity for a future invasion. The gameplay revolves around typical retail-sim tasks: restocking shelves, pumping gas, ringing up customers, cleaning the store, and keeping the operation running smoothly all the while, all of it doubles as a cover for your alien research mission. While managing the station earns money and keeps customers happy, players can also invest in hidden alien technology and research tools designed to gather data on unsuspecting humans. The real challenge comes from juggling both sides of the operation without blowing your cover! Multiplayer sim fans, step right up!

We Gotta Go

We Gotta Go takes a very relatable problem and turns it into a co-op horror comedy: you and your friends are trapped inside a haunted mansion and desperately need to find the only working bathroom before your stomach gives up on you. The gameplay revolves around navigating cursed hallways, scavenging for useful items, and surviving encounters with ghosts and other bizarre threats while a pressure system constantly reminds you that time is not on your side. Players must manage their character’s “bowel meter” by making smart food choices, using items, or even relieving pressure in creative ways before things go catastrophically wrong. Along the way you’ll encounter strange enemies and other ridiculous hazards while working together to push deeper into the mansion before things get “loose”. Perfect for a bunch of friends looking to get a laugh or two!

Log Riders

Log Riders turns a painfully simple idea into a surprisingly chaotic co-op challenge that will obliterate friendships! In this two-player platformer, you and a friend stand on top of a single rolling log and attempt to navigate obstacle-filled courses without wiping out. Movement is all about coordination: by shifting your characters forward and backward on the log, you control its rotation and momentum, trying to keep your balance while inching your way through traps, gaps, and moving hazards. The concept sounds easy until you actually try it. Levels are designed to test not only teamwork and patience. So, if you’re looking to jump into this one, make sure you bring your bestest of friends because everything is on the log here!

There you have it! If you have played one of these already, let me know what you think of it in the comments below! Would you deem “Friendlike" or “Friendslop”? Let us know! Happy multiplayer gaming to all!
